Crews are working to restore power after a sewer fire knocked out power to downtown Omaha.

Omaha Police say the fire happened around 5:30 pm Sunday night near 17th and St. Mary’s Avenue.

Authorities say an electrical volt started a fire in the sewers. Customers from 8th to 26th and from Harney to Spring Streets have been affected by the outage.

Two underground electrical vaults caught fire and exploded, sending manhole covers shooting up into the air, according to Omaha Fire Department.

Firefighters closed the area and made sure nobody was parked, driving, or walking near any manhole covers. So far no injuries have been reported. There is no word yet on when power may be restored. (souce: kmtv.com)
