It is a sad state of affairs when the McRib sandwich has become a cultural icon.

McDonalds added this curious item to their menu in 1981. Since then, it has worked its way, like a parasite, into our daily lives. It’s been on Letterman, The Simpsons and has its own website which offers McRib iron-ons and board games. McDonalds even launched a parody site “Boneless Pig Farmers of America.”

Online petitions exist in favor and opposed to retiring the McRib.

Foodfacts.com decided to take a closer look at the McRib. Afterall, can we trust a rib sandwich that doesn’t have ribs?

Result: The McRib doesn’t look pretty without its makeup.
