Oarfish have undoubtedly added to sea serpent legends of old.

If I saw a 36 foot long, 150 pound fish with long red hair swimming by, I’d call it a sea serpent too.

Oarfish inhabit temperate and tropical oceans worldwide but are rarely encountered. They spend most of their time eating zooplankton, shrimp and other crustaceans in depths up to 3000 feet.
