Forget about the cutting edge airports being built around the world, Virgin Galactic launched the world’s first spaceport in August of 2012.

Spaceport America, located in the remote deserts of New Mexico, is slated to provide regularly scheduled commercial spaceflights by 2013. SPA has already launched 12 suborbital flights.

At $209 million, this project includes its own airfield, launch pad, terminals. hangars, utilities, water sources, roads, restaurant and tourism center.

This facility is so remote and expensive, I can’t see this being a profitable venture. More likely it’s just part of a pissing contest within the Billionaire Boys Club.
