Catfish in southwest France’s Tarn River are eating pigeons.

The University of Toulouse stated this is highly unusual behavior and dubbed the local catfish “freshwater killer whales.” European catfish can reach 4 feet in length and weigh upwards of 200 pounds. So, they obviously require lots of food.

Researchers speculate the Tarn River’s catfish have depleted their normal food supply of aquatic plants so now they are coming at the pigeons. In a 5 month study, these catfish have nabbed at least 54 pigeons, with a success ratio of 28%.

Seems like the pigeons now have more than just the local bums to worry about.
