The Tree Kangaroo is a bizarre and beautiful creature. It looks as though a genetic engineer took the most redeeming traits from bears, monkeys, lemurs and koala, then squished them into a kangaroo.

14 tree kangaroo subspecies exist in the rainforests of New Guinea, far northeastern Queensland, and nearby islands.

The two most amazing facts about tree kangaroos:

  • Capable of leaping up to 30 feet from tree to tree and can jump 60 feet to the ground without getting hurt. Folks, be amazed with these little guys–that’s like jumping from the roof of an 8 story building.
  • The golden-mantled tree-kangaroo was discovered in 2005. Now that’s elusive.
