Houston is a commuting city so its residents take their cars seriously. Ironically perhaps, this city is also the birthplace of the world’s strangest art car parade.

In 1989, the Houston International Festival organized the first parade of this type and it has been entertaining Houstonians ever since. How serious can they be while sharing the streets with cars like this?

The first art car parade included 40 cars and attracted 2,000 spectators. The event’s second year included 80 cars and crowds numbering in the tens of thousands.

Today, the Art Car Parade (notice the capital letters) has grown into an annual 3-day celebration, culminating in a parade of 300+ mobile art pieces and 250,000+ die hard fans from all over North America.
